For Christmas I have made a quilt, a scarf, a children's cape, spa wraps, and am working on a couple of ikebana vase/containers. Plus, there's plenty of time for more ideas!

I was going to do either crocheted washcloths, or potholders, but...I'm running out of time.

I love your quilts! Thanks for sharing them!

Way to go AJ! 600 posts - wow! Nice fabric, too. I've got 2 possibly 3 quilts in the works as presents, as well as some curtains to go with one of them. (I am hoping I am not delusional as I've got no other ideas for these folks!) Hoping to get a few table toppers done, and I've done some embroidered cards for special folks

A new quilter who has stumbled on this blog- I'm loving it, so much inspiration! This year, I'm taking on a new challenge. I just married into a Jewish family, so for Hanukkah I want to make so blue themed place mats. (So I loved your last two blue posts!)

I'm sewing a baby quilt for my pregnant sister-in-law who is due January 3rd.
I'm also thinking of making a planner (a little calendar notebook) for a friend and incorporating pictures for each month from each month of 2009. We'll see, it'd be some work to put together. I'm hoping I find the time :)

Congrats on 600 posts!

Congratulations - and thank you for sharing your journey.
And thank you for offering such beautiful fabric! I will be making some fold-small, large capacity shopping bags out of rip-stop nylon this Christmas. They fold up and tuck in your purse, but are strong enough to hold a good quantity of groceries

hi, i love your blog. totally inspirational. in fact you inspired me to make a stacked coin lap quilt in pastel christmas fabric with a pieced back (!!) for my mom for christmas. the binding is red and pink polka dot to match the snowman hats. super cute. she taught me to sew and i've never made her anything of significance before, so i'm way overdue. keep up the great work!

I love your site and have been inspired by it. I am knitting socks for granddaughters, plus letting them choose a quilt from the 14 I have recently completed. Thanks for all you do.

Remote control pillows from thrifted men's shirts; a fleece red-riding-hood cape; pj pants; fancy-schmancy scarves from embroidered drapery sheers; softy color books for my two grandbabies--and I _need_ one of those fat quarters!

Lets see, Hot pads, kitchen towels, dresses, more kitchen towels. Oh, and I really wanted to make a quilt or runner for my mom with the new Flora and Fauna from Patty Young, however, the fabric is not out yet so now I will have to come up with something else.

I've got three quilt projects for gifts. There's a blue Little Bits quilt from _Last Minute Quilted Gifts_. I assembled an Alex Anderson top for my mom, and I'm going to sandwich it and baste it for her to hand-quilt. I'm also winging three mini-quilt wall hangings for my sister. Oh, and I'm doing an Advent Calendar for my kids, using Elizabeth's pattern from Sew Mama Sew.

This was my plan to save myself from going crazy knitting socks. I'm such a supergenius sometimes...

I'm making a grandmother's flower garden quilt and after cutting all my hexagons out realized I didn't like a few of the color combinations with the rest of the colors. So I'm taking those flowers that got kicked out of the quilt and making trivets for family members.

smarti said...

Happy 600th! I have gotten so much inspiration from your blog. Thank you!

I'm making a couple of table runners for 2 different Christmas swaps. I'm making a quilt for my momma (just needs quilting and binding at this point) and one for my grandma (I'm using Moda precuts but really have no pattern in mind at the moment). And I'm considering making a throw for my in laws but we'll have to see if I get the others done first.

So cute!

I've done an apron and have three quilts ready to be bound. I have to figure out what I'm doing for the younger cousins, but I'm feeling pretty good about this year's production. Unfortunately, that will probably lead me to tack on another project or two, and then all **** will break loose!

This year I am making pot holders out of quilt squares and little quilted ornaments to dress up the packages.

Congrats Wow 600. I really enjoy reading your blog your work is beautiful. I don't think I'm making anything this year. Shocking for me. I'm not a big gift giver and my Dad is having open heart surgery in a week and I really can't even think about Christmas. I will be focusing on family and the spirit of Christmas this year. I might make some cards for my sister and mom but that's all.
Thanks Cynthia

Thank you Amanda Jean for your positive influence on so many of us in our quilting. You challenge and inspire.
This year, the gifts seem to be along the lines of table runners and hot pads at the Davis house. They are quick and go together in a few hours time, or minutes in the potholder case.

Congrats on your 600th! You've been an inspiration to me and made quilting feel more accessible. I've just finished my 2nd quilt and mostly because of ideas I've gotten from you. Thanks!

I'm making calendars for the grandparents and maybe aprons for our moms. My daughter and I did our first craft together last weekend and cut out some baked ornaments that she painted this week for Nanna and Gramma. She's only 22 months :) We live overseas so it'll be a special gift for them. I'm also continuing a family tradition of giving pj's for Christmas Eve, but I'll be making my daughters instead of buying them. And for me? Maybe an apron and some slippers :)

I just finished machine-sewing on the binding to a queen-sized strip quilt for my parents' Christmas gift. Each year, someone in my family/circle of friends gets a big quilt for Christmas. Now I've just got to hand-sew the binding down, finish up two small matching pillows and I'm done. All my friends are getting ornaments I've made from a pattern found online -- felt doughnuts. Who says Christmas tree ornaments can't be felt food?

I'm only making the one quilt.Well, finishing the one quilt I've been working on for a year now, working on as in, glancing at the pieced top I finished before the baby and wishing I had some time to get to it already. How on earth do you manage more than one kid and all your wonderful quilts?

Your blog is what inspired me to start quilting, so thank you!!

I have made stockings for two of my neices, am in the middle of a figgy pudding quilt (my own pattern!!) for my living room and have every intention of making two or three doll quilts/pillow sets for another neice. With a hubby who broke his leg today, it may be more than I can sew this year...but I'm going to try!!

Thus far I have made 3 house cleaning aprons. These are not the typical bib aprons but ones that cover you entirely, button in the back and have four large pockets around the bottom hem. I made and embroidered matching hot pads. I am in the process of making PJ pants. And I hope to make an embroidery/ fabric fused picture of robins. After Christmas it is on to quilts. Yay

600 posts! Awesome! I am only making a few Christmas gifts this year and I am giving them out early, because I want the recipients to use them during the holidays. They will be Christmas purses they can carry them around for the holidays. I also want to make some of the journal covers that just posted on Moda Bake Shop. They are perfect. They posted that tutorial just in time for me. :)

I am totally off the hook this year - zero time to create for Christmas but I will make up for it later :) What are you making for Christmas!?

Thimbleanna said...

Actually, the thanks is from this side of your blog -- Thank YOU from the bottom of MY heart! You're so inspiring -- this giveaway is just another example of your fabuluous taste in fabrics. Here's to another 600 and beyond!!!

HAPPY 600!!! I'm making a couple bags - but I'm taking it easy this year. I totally stressed myself out trying to make ALL my gifts last year...

Gari in AL said...

I hadn't planned to make anything but I am quilting a Chicken dresden plate, have sewn two flannel rag quilts, have put together one fleece throw and have another one ready to sew. I am also embroidering names on three Christmas socks. If I have time, I am making four string placemats, also. Not bad for someone who wasn't going to make any Christmas gifts this year, huh?

Congratulations on 600 posts! How fun :)

I love reading everybody's ideas! I may have to borrow some.

I am still trying to come up with a few more ideas for Christmas gifts to make!

So far I have embroidered two tote bags and made raggy-applique towels for my sister. I am making a twin size quilt for each of my boys and a couple of *secret* gifts no one knows about yet! lol

Congratulations on your 600th post!
Thanks once again for all the inspiration and quilting ideas.
I am making my mother a quilt for Christmas. She taught me to sew and I fear I was not a very easy pupil so I feel I owe her. There are 6 children in our family and we were almost all born in different states so I chose the state blocks and did them all in blue(her favorite color). The sandwich is ready for as soon as my machine stops acting up...

Holy WOW. 600! That is impressive.
I am embroidering a tea towel for my mom with nesting dolls and wheat sheaves, and am making several doll quilts for nieces, and my daughter is getting something handmade too, I just haven't decided what exactly yet.

Love the fabric colors!

This Christmas I am finishing my 9-patch-along and giving it to my mother. I have to quilt it and bind it and it's DONE. The biggest quilt I've made yet. It's so colorful! I am also making a set of magnets out of vintage poker chips (for a friend), and I made my grandmother a ripple crochet blanket out of thrifted yarn. I still have 30+ days left to come up with (and finish?!) a few more projects!

Ammieloris said...

Oh, thank you for the sweet giveaway, and congratulations on 600 posts! Blogging is a lot of work and a lot of rewarding. :) Your blog is inspiring.

To answer your question, this year for Christmas I'd like to embroider and sew a nativity quiet book. I'd also love to knit some socks or weave a wall hanging for my mom.

I would love to make some handmade gifts this year but I am due with baby boy #2 on Dec. 4th so I am taking a year off from handmade. It is my goal to come up with a signature gift for birthdays next year so I am going to be brainstorming ideas for that.

Love your blog, here is to another 600!

Congratulations on your 600th post. I'm just getting started with my blog so I know that is an accomplishment. My Christmas gift is actually a Christmas project. My oldest daughter will be home from overseas for the month of December. This will be here first time home in two years. I just took up quilting a couple of years ago. Anyhow, she is looking forward to coming home and working together on some projects. So, I've worked it out to be off work quite a bit while she is home. I'm excited to have this opportunity to be at home with her during the holidays and to make a quilt together.

I'm just starting to get my act together and making gifts. I'm thinking some sock dogs, quilted placemats/coasters, knitted dish cloths and maybe more. Just depends on how fast I can work!

I'm making a few things for Christmas this year. "boo boo bags"(small rice bags) for my mother-in-law's freezer, because the grandkids are always geting bumps and owies, and while a bag of frozen vegetables works, it is way too big for a 2 year old's forehead! I'm also making an ABC quiet book for my baby, and a quilt for some friends getting married the day after Christmas, so same deadline!

Jeannie Gan said...

I'd really like to make a few table runners...however it's getting closed to Christmas, I hope I will have enough time to make them!

Wow. 600!! That's awesome. Did you know that it was your blog that was the VERY FIRST blog posting that I ever read that was on quilting??? You opened up a whole new world of inspiration for quilting. I will always be eternally grateful for "AmandaJean" blog. :-)
For Christmas gifts, I honestly don't know... I am moving Dec 22, and currently building my new house, so Christmas won't really happen around here. I have 2 little girls, so I will try and throw up some sort of tree on the 23rd, but it's too hard right now to do much quilting. But I am going to attempt to make a christmas wall hanging!! Wish me luck!

Lexi said...

Well what haven't I made. 10 dolls, 2 dolly baskets with quilts, mattresses and pillows; 2 skirts, a lap top cover, 2 more doll quilts, 2 personalised quilts with names on them for babies. And yet I am not finished! So little time left. It's a hand made christmas this year. :)
